Overview

All new for 2007, Chevy Avalanche has been redesigned inside and out. Still, Avalanche is the Ultimate Flexible Vehicle that can go from a 6-passenger SUV to a full-size pickup with seating for three and a protected cargo box longer than 8' with the tailgate closed. For 2007, Avalanche shares the exterior, interior and mechanical improvements found on the new Tahoe and Suburban. That translates to an incredible level of refinement inside and out. Immediately visible is the fact that the exterior cladding has been replaced with a more upscale, monochromatic look. Also, the body proportions are trimmer and more athletic than its predecessor.

Top Ten Features

  • 1. Full-size pickup bed with exclusive Midgate design Avalanche is the only vehicle that can go from an SUV to a full-size pickup with an 8'2" cargo box. A standard 3-piece rigid tonneau cover protects the cargo. Both the tonneau cover and rear window can be removed to accommodate taller items.
  • 2. New generation of Vortec engines with E85 FlexFuel capability The standard engine is the 5.3L V8 and a new light-duty 6.0L V8 is available (Q3 2006). Both feature Active Fuel Management, which boosts fuel economy. E85 FlexFuel 5.3L engines are available on 2WD models and standard on 4WD.
  • 3. Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist and Rearview Camera System For greater safety when backing up, Avalanche is now available with Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist. Additionally, a new rearview camera system is available that provides an extra measure of safety and makes it much easier to attach a trailer.
  • 4. New suspension and steering Coil-overshock front suspension design replaces the previous torsion bar system for superior ride and handling characteristics. New rackand- pinion steering provides more precise and quicker response than the previous recirculating ball system. Highly refined 5-link coil spring rear suspension provides a much smoother ride than the leaf-spring design of the full-size pickup competitors.
  • 5. Remote locking tailgate New for 2007, a remote locking tailgate is standard on every Avalanche. Simply press a button on the key fob or one of the interior door lock switches, and the tailgate locks or unlocks along with the vehicle doors.
  • 6. Eaton Automatic Locking Rear Differential (G80) Available on all models (standard on LTZ), it automatically locks the left and right rear wheels together when slippage is detected at lower speeds. This sends maximum drive power to the wheel with traction, which is more effective than the traditional limited-slip differentials available on the competition.
  • 7. RainSense windshield wipers and heated windshield washer fluid For improved visibility, the available RainSense windshield wipers automatically actuate when raindrops are detected and adjust wiper delay based on rain intensity. The available heated windshield wiper removes ice and frost without having to use a scraper.
  • 8. StabiliTrak - Stability Control System with Proactive Roll Avoidance This sophisticated electronic stability control system is standard on every Avalanche. Proactive Roll Avoidance detects potential rollover situations and takes corrective action.
  • 9. Head-curtain side-impact air bags System protects outboard occupants in both the front and rear seats. Standard on 3LT and LTZ, available on all others.
  • 10. Remote Vehicle Starter System This factory-installed system operates up to 200' away and provides added security over aftermarket systems because it does not override the antitheft engine immobilizer. Includes climate pre-conditioning.

  • New generation of Vortec engines Provides greater performance and remarkable capability combined with significantly quieter operation, improved durability and better fuel economy.
  • Active Fuel Management Delivers the power and efficiency that today’s full-size SUV buyers need. Half the cylinders are shut off during light load conditions, transforming the V8 into a more efficient V4. When full power is needed the cylinders are seamlessly reactivated.
  • FlexFuel Capable of running on unleaded or up to 85% ethanol (E85).
  • Vortec 5.3L V8 SFI engine with Active Fuel Management (iron block) Standard on Avalanche 2WD models (LY5), FlexFuel version available (LMG). - 320 hp @ 5200 rpm. - 340 lb.-ft. torque @ 4200 rpm.
  • Vortec 5300 V8 SFI FlexFuel engine with Active Fuel Management (aluminum block) Standard on Avalanche 4WD (LC9). - 310 hp @ 5200 rpm. - 335 lb.-ft. torque @ 4400 rpm.
  • Vortec 6000 V8 SFI engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and Active Fuel Management (aluminum block) Available on Avalanche 2LT, 3LT and LTZ models (Q3 2006). - 366 hp @ 5500 rpm. - 380 lb.-ft. torque @ 4300 rpm.
  • 4-speed automatic transmissions Electronically controlled for smooth, quiet shifting; includes tow/haul mode for better performance when pulling a trailer or hauling heavy cargo.
  • Locking differential Available on all Avalanche models except LTZ, which has it as standard equipment. Differential locks automatically when slippery or unstable road surfaces are detected. Differential unlocks at approximately 18-20 mph. More efficient system than competitive limited slip differentials.
  • Trailering equipment Standard on all Avalanche models. Includes trailering hitch platform with 2" receiver and a 7-wire harness with independent fused trailering circuits mated to a 7-way sealed connector.
  • Independent front suspension New design coil-overshock with stabilizer bar.
  • Solid axle rear suspension Multi-link with coil springs and gas pressurized shock absorbers.
  • Suspension choices. - Premium Smooth Ride Suspension - Standard on all Avalanche models except LTZ. Provides smooth car-like ride quality and precise handling. - Autoride Suspension - Standard on LTZ and with 6.0L engine. Designed to minimize the impact of bumps, potholes and other road imperfections by automatically controlling shock damping on a continuous, real-time basis. Works with the tow/haul mode feature to enhance driver control and vehicle stability when pulling a trailer. - Z71 Off-Road Suspension - Available only on Avalanche Z71 models (available Fall 2006). This suspension and appearance package provides the trademark Z71 performance and look by utilizing increased rate springs and high pressure shocks, stabilizer bar, chassis component shields, specific 18" wheels and on-/off-road radial tires.
  • StabiliTrak - Stability Control System with Proactive Roll Avoidance Standard on all Avalanche models. This sophisticated vehicle stability control system continuously monitors key operating dynamics to help the driver maintain control and keep the vehicle in its desired path. Proactive Roll Avoidance detects potential rollover situations and takes action to reduce lateral force.
  • Autotrac 4WD system Allows shift-on-the-fly convenience and versatility with four forward drive modes available using the new rotary control.
  • Wider track with larger wheels/tires. - 17" aluminum wheels and P265/70R17 all-season touring blackwall tires are standard on Avalanche LS and LT. LS has its own wheel style and LT has its own wheel style. White outlined-letter tires are available. - 20" polished aluminum wheels and P275/55R20 allseason touring tires.   • Power rack-and-pinion steering Standard feature and new for 2007.
  • 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS Standard feature that helps prevent wheel lockup during hard braking on most slippery surfaces.

Comfort And Convenience

  • Midgate Segment-exclusive feature that allows for two different box sizes. In the upright closed position, the box is 5'3" long. Fold the rear seats forward and the Midgate can be lowered to create an 8'2" long box with the tailgate up.
