If you want big and bold, then you are probably already aware of the two biggest powerhouses in the pickup truck class. The 2018 Chevy Silverado and 2018 Ford F-150 both are strong contenders, but who can get the job done better?
A truck is judged by its size, power, and the features that give it character. When it comes to configuration options both the Silverado 1500 and F-150 offer fairly identical options, but when it comes to engines and towing ability the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, when given thought to price point and engine ability, surprisingly wins hands down. It may be difficult to pick only one of these amazing pickups, but sometimes it is endearing when the choice is almost as tough as the vehicle itself.
Features are the heart of any vehicle. The power and appearance may be attractive to you, but it is the technology, safety, and convenience features that really finalize any automotive sale.
When it comes to technology features, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has an impressive list of highlights for a truck that was made for its muscles. Chevrolet implemented its MyLink 7-inch or 8-inch touch display into the 2018 Silverado. With this feature, you can store up to 60 personalized favorites that could include contacts, stations, or destinations with the available navigation option. You can also get a wireless charging station to keep your phone at full power all the time. Chevrolet also has an app that will link you directly to your vehicle at all times and allow you to do convenient things such as turn your engine on or off. Lastly, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado will keep you connected at all times with built-in WiFi.
Whereas the 2018 Silverado has the MyLink system, the 2018 Ford F-150 impresses with its SYNC 3 system which always keeps you connected while on your journey. The Sync 3 system allows for smartphone connectivity, SiriusXM traffic and travel link, voice-activated navigation, and the FordPass app which keeps you and your vehicle in sync at all times.
ith the engines alone, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado has the advantage over the 2018 Ford F-150, but both have quite the impressive selection of engines.
The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado offers three amazing EcoTec3 engines. One of the engine options is a V6 engine, and two are V8 engines.
The 4.3L V6 engine produces 285hp and 305 lb-ft of torque and can pull a minimum high of 5,500 pounds when paired with the 2-wheel drive crew cab configuration and a maximum of 7,600 pounds when paired with the 4-wheel drive regular cab.This engine is not available for the Crew cab with standard box configuration. This is perfect if you need something you can trust to haul your motorcycle for you.
The 5.3L V8 engine produces 355 hp and 386 lb-ft of torque. As with all engines though, the towing ability for the 5.3L V8 engine for the 2018 Silverado 1500 varies depending on your cab choice, transmission, and whether you invested in the max trailering package. The standard max towing capacity for this V8 engine is 9,400 pounds, add on the max trailering package, and you bump that up to a hearty 11,100 pounds.
Neither of the first two engine options really compare though to the 6.2L V8 engine which contains 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2L V8 engine delivers an impressive 9,400 pounds of towing capability, but add the max trailering packages, and you will receive a ground-breaking towing capacity of 12,500 pounds.
Overall, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 does nothing less than stun the competition with its raw power and towing ability.
At its absolute peak performance, the 2018 Ford F-150 proves that it was built Ford tough by having the ability to tow a best-in-class max of 13,200 pounds when fully equipped. With engine options alone though, the 2018 F-150 pulls a max 8,000 pounds which doesn’t beat the 2018 Silverado’s 9,400 pounds.
As for engines, there is a wide arrangement of options for the 2018 Ford F-150. There are four basic options. Three are V6 engines, while one is the V8 engine. At a minimum, you will get 250 hp, and at max, you will get 450 hp. The 2018 Ford F-150 is truly dedicated to being the best when it comes to power.
When it comes to configurations of a pickup truck, there are a few important details that must be focused on. The first is the cab which determines the number of doors and cabin size, the bed size for how much junk you need in the trunk, and color and style options for the exterior, interior and wheels. The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado offers almost the same cab and bed options as the 2018 Ford F-150, but when it comes to painting and style availability, it does have a few differences.
The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado offers five cab and box configurations. The two-door regular cab comes with either the 78.87-inch standard bed or 97.77-inch long bed. If you invest in the double cab with two full doors and two half doors, you will get the 78.87-inch regular bed. Finally, if you get the crew cab with four full doors, you can choose between the 69.33-inch short bed and the 78.87 standard bed. The size of your pickup is up to you.
As for color options, the exterior paint can be divided into light, dark, and vibrant. The light options are Summit White, Silver Metallic, and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat. The Iridescent Pearl is only available for a crew cab. The dark options are Black, Graphite Metallic, and Havana Metallic. The Havana Metallic is a brownish tint and not available in crew cab. Lastly, the vibrant options are Red Hot, Deep Ocean Blue Metallic, and Cajun Red Tricoat. The Cajun Red is not offered for WT and LS trim levels.
As for the interior, there is the tannish Dune, brownish Saddle, greyish Dark Ash, or Jet Black. Along with the twelve shining wheel options, whether you like your ride light and refreshing or dark and elegant, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado has got customizable options for you.
The 2018 Ford F-150 offers three cab options with two-bed options each. The regular cab with two full doors comes with either a 78.87-inch regular bed or 97.77-inch long bed. The SuperCab is equal to the Chevrolet’s double cab with two full doors and two half doors. The Ford SuperCab in addition to offering the regular bed can also be sold with a long bed. Lastly, the SuperCrew offers four full doors and comes with either a compact 69.33-inch small bed or the regular bed. The cab and bed combinations for the 2018 Ford F-150 are both uniquely named and easily customizable.
The exterior and interior color options for the 2018 Ford F-150 are all highly dependent on which trim level you invest in. Altogether, there are fourteen exterior paint options and eighteen interior options. Majority of trims offer either one to three of the interior options. Select exterior paints such as the White Platinum, greenish Guard, and dark greyish Lead Foot are only available in very select trim levels. The options may be impressive in quantity, but you may need a chart in order to follow what options are available for what trim.
