The starting engine in the 2019 Chevy Camaro is a 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder engine that provides up to 275hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. On the other hand, the starting engine in many models of the 2019 Ford Mustang is a 2.3L EcoBoost engine that provides up to 310hp and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. So if you are going with the starting engines in these cars, the Mustang takes an early lead.
High-end engines in these two vehicles are only available with certain trim levels and models, so keep that in mind as you compare these cars. Wanting to go fast doesn’t mean giving up on luxury and comfort, so modern sports cars have great options for interior details. It’s important to note that many of these features are only available at certain trim levels or require upgrades, so keep that in mind. The 2019 Chevy Camaro has an excellent array of interior options including front bucket seats with available 8-way power driver seat and 6-way power front passenger seat, both of which can be heated. A lot of these features are optional and only available at certain trim levels or on particular models, so keep that in mind. The 2019 Chevy Camaro has an available 8-inch color driver information center in addition to an 8-inch Infotainment display with Navigation. There is an option for a 9-speaker Bose premium audio system, keyless open and start, and a rear camera mirror that displays on the rearview mirror itself. One of the most impressive features is a head-up display that projects vehicle information onto the windshield in a low area so it is out of the way but easy to see without taking your eyes off the road.
There are great technology options for the 2019 Ford Mustang as well, though one or two things could be improved upon. One of the most impressive options is a 12-inch instrument cluster that is an LCD screen and there is also a touchscreen Navigation system with voice activation. There is an available auto-dimming rearview mirror, though the rear-facing camera does not display on it. You cannot get a head-up display projection with the Ford Mustang like you can with the Camaro, which is a bit of a disappointment.
Sadly, in the past, the words “sports car” and “safety” have rarely been associated with each other, but there is no other vehicle where safety features are more important. The high speeds that sports cars can travel, and their low profiles, make safety features incredibly important to prevent collisions and protect people if the unthinkable does occur. While the 2019 Chevy Camaro has a robust suite of available safety features, the Ford Mustang is lacking in some key areas.
The 2019 Chevy Camaro includes StabiliTrak for stability and traction control, with a thorough airbag system and 3-point seatbelts. Available safety features include rear park assist, rear cross traffic alert, and forward collision alert to help a driver avoid a crash. There is also available lane change alert that includes a side blind zone alert, and even a teen driver system that enables certain safety features when a young driver is behind the wheel.
Safety features in the 2019 Ford Mustang are pretty good, but there is room for improvement. The Mustang includes 3-point seatbelts along with knee airbags for the driver and front passenger, dual front airbags, and side-impact airbags for the front seats. There is an available blind spot information system and cross-traffic alert, but they are included with a technology package that includes Navigation and superior speakers, which has nothing to do with overall safety. There are some good things here, but Ford has missed some safety technology that would be a welcome addition.
Both the 2019 Chevy Camaro and the 2019 Ford Mustang are gorgeous sports cars that perfectly illustrate how far the driving experience has evolved over the last few decades. Overall, however, the Camaro just manages to pull ahead in some key areas, especially if you want the most power possible in terms of both horsepower and torque. Great additional features like an available head-up display and more robust safety options push the 2019 Chevy Camaro even further ahead.
