Safety

2018 Chevrolet Malibu

The 2018 Malibu is a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick and has over 11 different driver-assist technologies to keep you and your family safe on the road. The Malibu comes standard with a rear-vision camera, comprehensive airbag system, and a high-strength steel safety cage. Plus, a free trial of OnStar’s safety and security plan, including automatic crash response, is included in the first month.
Available safety features include Front and Rear Park Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Automatic Braking, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. These features will all work together to keep you as safe as possible between point A and point B.

2018 Toyota Camry

Although not an IIHS Top Safety Pick, the 2018 Camry did receive a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA. However, the majority of its safety features are options and are not included in base trims. For example, it has an available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert along with the Star Safety System, a package that comes with several safety features. The features included in the Star Safety System are Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brake System, and more. The standard safety feature is 10 airbags.

Performance

2018 Chevrolet Malibu

While the new Camry does have three more color options to choose from, the styling of the Malibu’s exterior can’t be beaten. The new Camry is more aggressive, with harsh style lines and sculpting and an intimidating black mesh grille. Like the Malibu, it also has available LED headlamps and daytime running lamps, dual exhaust pipes, and LED tail lights.
The Camry’s attempts at a luxurious interior fall short of the Malibu’s. The available leather seating is a garish red shade that may or may not match the exterior paint, depending on the color you want. However, like the Malibu, it does offer features like heated front seats keyless start. Options include a moonroof and paddle shifters, though these options are less practical in comparison to the comforts the Malibu provides.

2018 Toyota Camry

The 2018 Camry only has two different engines to choose from, giving you less choice and customization when it comes to your car. Standard on the L and LE trims is the 2.5L four cylinder DOHC engine. This one gets 203 horsepower. The gas mileage depends on the trim level; the L trim gets 29/41/34 city, highway, and combined and the LE trim gets 28/39/32 city, highway, and combined. This is pretty comparable to the Maibu’s basic engine.
The other engine, standard on the XSE trim, is the 3.5L dual injection DOHC V6 engine. This engine is more powerful, getting 301 horsepower. However, this power comes at a cost: the gas mileage for this engine is only 22/32/26 MPG city, highway, and combined. That will definitely add up at the pump.
